NEWSLETTER - OCTOBER 2000

A meeting of the Forum was held at the Cross Hands Workingmen's Club on Tuesday, October 10 2000 at 7.30pm.

Apologies were received from Sian McAnulty, Sergeant Frank Phillips and Carol Evans.

The September Newsletter was agreed to be a true record of the minutes of the last meeting, and signed by the Chairman.

1. Matters Arising

Dog Fouling

The Caeglas and Meadows Road area had been designated for the monitoring of dog fouling problems in Cross Hands.

Members present also felt the need to bring horse-fouling problems to the attention of Carmarthenshire County Council's (CCC) attention. Incidences of pavement fouling by horses seemed to be on the increase in the village.

Councillor Baker informed the meeting that the Amman/Gwendraeth Area Committee of CCC would be allocated a budget to tackle litter and fly-tipping problem areas within its region. It is hoped that an improvement will be seen in Cross Hands as a result.

Complaints concerning air pollution were brought to the Forum's notice. The Secretary to draft a letter to CCC's Department of Public Protection as to the rules and regulations governing both private and business air pollutants.

2. Development Framework

Councillor Baker gave a comprehensive update of the funding situation for the Llandeilo Road improvement project. More information would be forthcoming during October.

3. Officers

After a detailed discussion, the Forum elected two new officers:

Vice Chairman - Mr Mike Simmons, Cross Hands Christian Centre
Treasurer - Diane Hamer, Hair Exchange
The Forum's books would be audited before each Annual General Meeting.

4. Promotion and Marketing

* Logo

Mrs Suzie Jones would be experimenting with ideas.

* Website

Mr Mike Simmons gave a brief resume of the website already set up on behalf of the Christian Centre, indicating that details for the Forum were already included along with other Cross Hands information. Forum members were delighted. Those wishing to log on can do so on www.crosshands.org.uk. Mr Simmons gave a demonstration to those present using lap top PC.

* Leaflets

Mr Karl Richards informed members of his ideas for an advertising leaflet. Initial ideas involved inclusion of a map and advertising slots. Research is on-going for a suitable and eye-catching format.

5. Any Other Business

* Cross Hands Park Playground

A group of concerned parents has established itself in order to address the issue of safety and improved play equipment at Cross Hands Park, Carmarthen Road.

* Kitchens

Following CCC's decision to close several day centre kitchens across the county, Councillor Baker informed that a co-operative group were looking into the possibility of keeping them running, including the day centre kitchen at the Public Hall, Cross Hands.

* Logo

The Secretary was requested to invite local schools to participate in designing ideas for a logo.

* Christian Centre

Following improvements to kitchen facilities at the centre in Tynewydd Terrace, the centre hopes to establish its "Mother and Toddler" group in January, called "Rainbow Tots". Also under discussion is the feasibility of establishing a youth project at the centre, an issue high on the agenda following the results of its original questionnaire. We appreciate the efforts of all involved.

News Update
